Discipleship Journey Assessment
Take the Discipleship Self-Assessment
We are each on a journey to become more like Jesus. We believe the Discipleship Self-Assessment tool is a helpful first step in your discipleship journey at New City. You will answer questions for each Discipleship Essential (Belonging, Truth, Identity, Purpose) and you will rank yourself for each. Your results will reveal areas where you can take a next step. Then you can explore the Discipleship Map tool and find out where to get connected at New City.
Opportunities to Grow
These upcoming ministry activities might be key areas where you could take a step in your discipleship journey:
Belonging
Explore Open Groups
We have community groups and Care groups launching soon. Explore our open groups and find the right fit for you.
Truth
New City Academy
As one of New City’s truth environments, New City Academy is designed to see our student’s lives transformed by the good news of Jesus, so they live abundant, joy-filled lives, and are equipped to be disciples who guide others in their discipleship journey.
This fall we have several courses beginning in September: How We Grow: Maturing in Christ (Wednesdays at SouthPark), 12 Big Questions: One Big Story (Wednesdays at SouthPark), Covenants: God's Promises from Eden to the New Jerusalem (Sundays at Matthews), and Discovering Jesus Weekend Workshop (October 23–24).
Identity
Pure Desire
Pure Desire is an in-person small group for men who want to be informed and equipped to take a stand for sexual integrity. It is also for men who want to find freedom for themselves from the effects of unwanted sexual behaviors and betrayal.
We know this is a widespread and destructive problem going on right now in our midst. The statistics on pornography use alone are staggering. And we all desire sexual integrity, whether it's for ourselves or for others. But we struggle with knowing where to start. This Pure Desire Group is a great place to start.

Iron Collective
Iron Collective is a unique group for men centered on exploring your identity in Jesus, prioritizing curiosity, trust, and commitment over a curriculum or book. Iron Collective emphasizes sharing your stories, unmasking shame, and encouraging a pursuit of anchoring our identity in Jesus. Groups form each fall and meet all year long. While groups are full this fall, you're invited to apply so you will be on the list for the next time groups launch.
DivorceCare
DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of the most painful experiences you can face. DivorceCare is a 13-week Care group meets Wednesdays and offers support, answers, and practical tools to help you manage the many stresses of separation and divorce and find healing.
GriefShare
It hurts so much to lose someone, and you don't have to go through the grieving process alone. GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. This 13-week Care Group meets at New City Matthews on Wednesday evenings this fall.
Purpose
Join a Team
Volunteer on Sundays at New City, in roles from seating host to production team to NextGen small group leader. You will have the opportunity to use your unique gifting to serve the congregation while building relationships with your teammates—your fellow volunteers.
Serve with our Local Partners
Many of our local ministry partners have opportunities to serve those in the greater Charlotte area who are facing particular needs. If you have a heart for foster care, Congregations for Kids, Isaiah117House, and FARM127 have opportunities for you. If you want to serve those facing food insecurity, Common Heart is serving all of Union County. If you want to help kids learn and grow in community, check out Place of Peace's Learning Center or Augustine Literacy Project.

Follow Up
Sometimes, you just need relationship and someone else that can help you think and process things. We invite you to reach out and set up a conversation with a staff member or one of the many leaders we have that lead at New City.
If you want to talk with a pastor, are interested in counseling, want to have a conversation about faith, or simply want to be known, let us know by sharing your name and contact info on the form below.
New City Cares
You don’t have to struggle alone. We want to help you. Whether you need prayer, counseling, or support in another way, New City's Care ministry is a resource for you.
Elisha Sermon Series
Maybe more than any other prophet in the Old Testament, Elisha was a prophet like Jesus. 2 Kings captures the life of Elisha and challenges each of us to be more like Jesus as well. Join us this fall as we explore Elisha's story from 2 Kings.
