Discipleship Journey Assessment

Take the Discipleship Self-Assessment

As disciples, we are each on a journey to become more like Jesus. We believe the Discipleship Self-Assessment is the first step in your discipleship journey at New City. The Discipleship Self-Assessment will walk you through questions for each Discipleship Essential (Belonging, Truth, Identity, Purpose) and allow you to rank yourself for each. Your score will show you the essentials where you can start looking for your next steps. Then you can explore the Discipleship Map tool and find out where to get plugged in at New City.

Opportunities to Grow

These upcoming ministry activities might be key areas where you could take a step in your discipleship journey:

Belonging

Group Launch – October 5

We believe community is our design, and we want to be a place where no one walks through life alone. At New City, Community Groups is the way we make that happen. If you'd like to join a group, let us know! We'll match you with others also looking for a group. Then you'll meet your group for the first time at Group Launch. There is no cost for the event, and we'll provide dinner as well as childcare.

Connect Groups & Events

These gatherings are designed to create spaces for people to experience connection and belonging. The goal of New City Connect is for people to meet friends, to belong in community, and to move people into what's next.

Truth

New City Academy

Our New City Academy courses help you understand the truth of the Bible so you can grow as an equipped follower of Jesus. New City Academy provides learning environments to equip disciple makers through training in biblical truth, character development, and practical ministry skills to help people find and follow Jesus.

This fall we have several courses beginning in September: Discovering Jesus (Wednesdays at both locations), Practicing the Way: Foundations for Spiritual Growth (Sundays at Matthews & an Online Self-Led Course), Engage: Helping People Find Jesus (Wednesdays at SouthPark), and an Old Testament Redemptive History weekend workshop (November 7–8).

Identity

Pure Desire

Pure Desire is an in-person small group for men who want to be informed and equipped to take a stand for sexual integrity. It is also for men who want to find freedom for themselves from the effects of unwanted sexual behaviors and betrayal.

We know this is a widespread and destructive problem going on right now in our midst. The statistics on pornography use alone are staggering. And we all desire sexual integrity, whether it's for ourselves or for others. But we struggle with knowing where to start. This Pure Desire Group is a great place to start.

Iron Collective

Iron Collective is a unique group for men centered on exploring your identity in Jesus, prioritizing curiosity, trust, and commitment over a curriculum or book. Iron Collective emphasizes sharing your stories, unmasking shame, and encouraging a pursuit of anchoring our identity in Jesus. Groups form each fall and meet all year long. While groups may be full this fall, you're invited to apply so you will be on the list for the next time groups launch.

Serve with our Local Partners

Many of our local ministry partners have opportunities to serve those in the greater Charlotte area who are facing particular needs. If you have a heart for foster care, Congregations for Kids, Isaiah117House, and FARM127 have opportunities for you. If you want to serve those facing food insecurity, Common Heart is serving all of Union County. If you want to help kids learn and grow in community, check out Place of Peace's Learning Center or Augustine Literacy Project.

Vision Night

Come hear Pastor Chris share about New City's vision to help people find and follow Jesus here, near, and far and discover how you can be involved. This intimate evening will include a discussion of our church's Here, Near, & Far vision as well as detailed updates on construction plans and progress for both Matthews and SouthPark congregations. We will create space for conversation about how each of us can be involved in what God is doing, the ongoing projects and initiatives we have planned over the next few years, and how our own generosity impacts our vision.
